Shamrockin’ it: How to Wear Green With Style for St. Patty’s Day

by Kelly Glenn March 12, 2012

It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day--are you planning on wearing green?

Dress in Style for St Patrick's Day

Erin go Bragh! I love St. Patrick’s Day--I mean, how can you not when there are so many hunky men with Irish accents. Think Colin Farrell or Gerard Butler--who’s actually Scottish but have you SEEN P.S. I Love You. So sexy, right?

Anyway, now that I’ve graduated college I have decided that my normal St Patrick’s Day style (drinking green beer and Irish car bombs--which I highly DON’T recommend, and throwing on whatever I could find that happens to have green in it) could use some amping up. What better way to celebrate the luck of the Irish than to embrace the green--here’s how to do St. Patty’s Day chic-ly:

A Pop Of Green

I picked 3 different outfits to show how you can rock the green anywhere, whether you’re going for green at the office or headed for a lucky cocktail hour after work.

I chose to go with one bold green piece in each outfit then pairing it with neutrals, because really--no one wants to look like an extra from the movie Leprechaun no matter what day it is.

Jewelry is a great way to add some subtle fun to the outfit, above I picked a clover key necklace, a gold coin necklace and a Claddagh ring; each subtle pieces that have Irish charm, yet can be worn any day of the year.

Add Some Neon

If you’re feeling a little more daring, St. Patty’s Day is THE perfect time to add some neon (one of spring’s hot trends) into your wardrobe. The key with neon, again, is to pair it with neutrals like nude so as not to over do it.

Minty Pale Pastel Nails

We all know how much I love painting my nails for each upcoming holiday. My favorite greens for the occasion are minty pale pastel greens like MAC’s Peppermint Patty and Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.

You could also go for a bolder green like OPI’s Fresh Frog from the Muppet’s collab. It practically SCREAMS St. Patrick’s Day.

Finishing Touch

Lastly, to finish of the perfect chic St. Patty’s Day outfit, I recommend a spritz of one of my favorite “green” scents like Demeter’s Clover--a scent that elicits the rugged and untamed nature of the Irish countryside with grassy notes and a hint of Irish spring soap.

Got any fab plans for St. Patty’s Day? Let us know! xo

How To Have a Perfectly Stylish Casual Christmas

by Tammy Gibson December 23, 2011

Casual Christmas

Planning to stay home for Christmas this year?  Make the best of it, create some memories, cuddle by the fire and take some great pictures to preserve the memory! Dress casual and comfy with the same twist of personality you should be wearing every time you get dressed!  The key to a chic casual look for a stylish casual Christmas is a great sweater!  (And, I’m not speaking of a sweater with a reindeer on it!)

This Michael Kors Belted Cardigan is the perfect fashion solution to keep you warm and looking fabulous. Wear over jeans, leggings or a maxi dress! Be sure your top is simple and fitted so the sweater takes center stage!

Kate Spade knows how to make simple special! Get inspired by this Matigale Bow Sweater and wear a look that will make you feel as special as you are! I love the sweater paired with a skirt of simple lines but it will also look fabulous with your best jeans!

If you prefer a classic look, a structured cardigan is lovely.  Instead of neutral, go for a vibrant color that enhances your mood like this Olympic Blue Pointelle Argyle Pattern Cardigan!  You’ll really stand out in family photos!

Love more of a boho chic vibe? Wear a poncho!  The asymmetric shape of this Heidi Poncho is interesting and pairs well with your favorite skinny jeans!  Add a long statement necklace, like that shown in the picture, to dress up the look.  *A poncho is not recommended if you are cooking!

Three more tips to help you look great for a casual Christmas celebration:

1. Once you decide on which sweater style to wear, make sure your bottom compliments the look.  If the sweater is more fitted, your bottom can be full like an aline skirt or flare jeans.  If your sweater is full then pair with skinny jeans, a pencil skirt or leggings.

2. Wear statement jewelry: choose a ring, necklace or earrings but only one piece needs to make a statement.

3. Wear shoes, not slippers (at least for the majority of the day!). You’ll feel more dressed with shoes (it is a special day, afterall!).  Skip the flats and go for heels, you’ll look fabulous!

Merry, Stylish Christmas!

Faux Pas or Fashionably Fab: Festive Sweaters

by Kelly Glenn November 17, 2011

My favorite trend this winter isn’t for everyone – but I think you should totally give it a try.

Christmas sweaters

We’ve all attended them. Those ‘ugly sweater’ parties where everyone heads over to Goodwill or, heaven forbid, the far depths of your closet in search of the tackiest Christmas sweater likely knitted and gifted with love by your precious (and somewhat senile) grandmother.

Or far worse, that one perfect family who sends that absolutely delightful family Christmas card featuring a portrait of their said perfect family (dog included) in matching Christmas sweaters and blue jeans all smiling and looking (unnaturally) happy against a backdrop of fall trees or the sandy beach.

Tacky, right? But lately I’m obsessed with these sweaters. I want to wear them every day, in fact. And who doesn’t love a nice big comfy sweater? Pair it with a nice pair of wool leggings and some riding boots. Totally chic, right?

Fall Trends to Try
1) Faux it up!
Faux fur all the rage (& perfect for this pescatarian). Cozy up with faux this season
Pair with jeans or as an add-on to your latest dress.

2) Faux leather
{Classic style over a basic tee}
Wear over a  printed dress
{Perfect over a flowy blouse & leggings}

3)Scarf central.
A little red, a little green, a little…whatever color your fashion heart desires!
This season you can replace your necklace with a BOLD statement color instead.

4) Jeans-skinny it up!
A lifted toosh is the BEST accessory. Life those cheeks up with a little help, like 7 jeans!

5) Boots galore
Of course you must strut in style. How about a fold-over zipper boot?  Be one of the first taking over this new trend.

My Fall Wish List

by Tammy Gibson September 30, 2011

My Fall Wish List

Every season holds new must-have items to purchase for your wardrobe.  What fun would it be to not update with at least a few key pieces, right?!  We’ve heard about the accessory trends reported by Bethany Winters, let’s talk fashion!

Break it down:

~Cobalt blue is an unexpected and lovely color for fall. This House of Harlow 1960′s Antler Cuff is a beautiful choice for a statement piece!

~Wide leg jeans are the cut of choice this season. While skinny jeans and jeggings still have a place in the wardrobe (we couldn’t tuck into tall boots without them!), the wide leg is sophisticated and make your legs look a mile long. Pair with heels for the best look.

~Capes are on-trend and so chic! I love this one with the plaid pattern and tie front!

~Boots that are versatile enough to wear with jeans or dresses, like ankle boots, are your best bet if you can only afford one pair this season! I’m a fan of the hardware on this pair!

~Cool cap. Really, there is no better way to hide your hair on days that it shouldn’t be seen! You know those days…! Don’t settle for a traditional cap, try something way more stylish like this schoolboy style!

That’s my short list…I really could go on and on.  I’m saving for that cuff (and the matching ring!) but I’m getting that cap sooner than later!

What’s on your fall wish list?

Tammy

Kardashian Collection At Sears Review

by Lindsey Holder September 27, 2011

Kardashian Kollection at Sears

Eager to check out the new Kardashian Collection, I raced to my nearest Sears. Is that where I am going?

What a surreal feeling to be going into Sears to shop for clothes. I think of that store when I need a new washer or dryer, but not the latest style must-haves! To my surprise, the collection was laid out nicely. Of course it would be-it’s the Kardashian name!

The collection was smaller than I thought it would be, as some pieces on-line I could not find in the store. The first impression the line reminded me of was New York style. The majority of the collection was either black or dark in color (grey or dark blue). I rounded up a few pieces that grabbed my attention & headed to the dressing rooms.

My review:
