Turn Your Workday Look Into Your Nightlife Look In Two Steps (Three If You Let Your Hair Down)

by Remington Ready October 28, 2013

We’ve been in this situation far too often: your work life and your social life are making time tight. You’re meeting people after work for dinner; you’re going on a date; you’re heading to a 5:30pm showing of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. You don’t have time to go home, your office doesn’t have a full-blown ladies’ locker room, and changing outfits in a car or in a public bathroom is just…not good.

What to do? Trick yourself into thinking you have changed!

1. Wear a hot top that you love, but wear it with a sweater or a cardigan. No one judges people in cardigans. It just is not done. (Then ditch it for the evening.)

2. Bring a second pair of shoes. New shoes equal new outfit.

3. Tie your hair up tight for the workday, then let it all come soaring out in a scene of glory. Imagine Rita Hayworth while you do this.

These three quick steps that allow you to feel like you’ve changed will make you intrinsically feel like you have changed, because you have actually changed! (Albeit slightly.) That’s the whole point: sweater gone – hot top on; galoshes gone – pink stilettos on; and, the coup de grace, “Gilda, are you decent?” It’s totally worth pulling that last move in front of anyone, FYI. It’s all so unbelievably easy, you’ll ask, “why didn’t I just think of that myself instead of being in such a touch-and-go mood all day because I tried to ride the fine line between looking professional and looking beautiful and, in doing so, I inadvertently got on Carol’s case about something insignificant that isn’t due until February?”

Don’t take it out on Carol. In fact, share these tips with Carol and then everyone can stop taking it out on everyone else. Except Tim, because that guy really needs to start carrying his weight.

How to Wear a Crop Top | The Right Way

by Katie Manwaring August 26, 2013

Over the past year crop tops have made a major comeback and it doesn't look like they are going away anytime soon. While the trend is definitely enticing, (who doesn't want to show a little skin in summer's heat?) it's one where it's easy for your look to go totally wrong. Baring a little midriff is cute in the right circumstances and can be done in a completely tasteful way, however showing too much skin can take your outfit South. To give you some inspiration when styling your own crop tops we pulled together four of a our favorite midriff-baring looks.

High Waisted Skirt

If your crop top is skimpy, try pairing it was a high waisted midi or maxi skirt - this way you only show a little bit of midriff. Still want to cover up a little more? Top off your look with a blazer in a fun color.

Embellished

To take attention away from the skin you're showing, choose a crop top that's embellished. Whether it's a bow, jewels, textured pattern or lace - eyes will be on your cute top.

Wide Leg Pants

Another great way to style a crop top is with a pair of high waisted, wide leg pants. The cut of the pants along with the crop top lengthens the body and gives the illusion of taller height.

Patterned

Want to make a statement? Wearing a matching patterned crop top and bottom is a fashion-forward way to wear the trend and bare some skin.

How to Wear White Jeans

by Remington Ready June 10, 2013

White jeans are a summer staple. They are a versatile item that every girl needs in her closet. White jeans can be easily dressed up for a night out, dressed down for days out in the sun, or used to put together a classy outfit for work. As we make our way into June, it is the perfect time to invest in a pair, or try to incorporate them into more outfits for these summer months!

Look 1 - Dressed up white jeans for a night out: Because of their simplicity, white jeans can become edgy enough for a night out easily. With the simple addition of a leather jacket, a pop of color, and heeled boots, they are instantly taken from a daytime item, to nighttime. If you like more of a preppy look, white jeans can be accessorized with pumps or open-toed heeled sandals for a night out.

Look 2 – Dressed up white jeans for the office: With a flared style, white jeans are perfect for a more casual summer day at the office. Paired with a bright blazer and pumps, this look is sophisticated and work appropriate, while still letting your personal style shine through. These flared pants could also be styled with a striped button up shirt for a more tailored look.

Look 3 – Dressed down white jeans for a summer day: When paired with a graphic tank top and flat sandals, white jeans are easily transitioned for a summer day. This outfit could be worn with ballet flats and a loose sweater for cooler summer days, too!

As you can see, white jeans can be worn in so many different ways this summer. Find a pair that flatters your body and challenge yourself to wear them in all kinds of ways!

Spring Fashion Must-Haves

by Shae Peppler April 22, 2013

Hi all! I’m back, and with a list of some of my favorite pieces you MUST GO GET for spring! Wherever you may live, these are wardrobe wants for any closet, and pieces you can mix and match from day to night. Let’s start at the top…

1) Fringe, flowy, top – Now, I am a lover of fringe (hence my blog name), but this Free People top embraces the look in t-shirt form and with ombre coloring. I mean, what more can you ask for? Throw it on with a pair of distressed shorts, light skinny jeans, or dress it up with leather leggings for a sexy night out.

2) The perfect graphic tee – I, unfortunately, am not heading to any music festivals this year, but if I was, I would most def be rocking a graphic tee or tank of some sort. They are so casual, yet understatedly sexy. Many have rips and tears in them to give you the rock ‘n roll meets girl next door look. Tousle your hair a bit and werk* it with an ankle boot or chunky wedge.

3) Bright blouse – Neons and brights are here to stay, and thank goodness, because I cannot look at any more dreary colors. Hook yourself up with a light-weight, bright, button-down that you can half tuck into rolled shorts or floral denim, or swap the bottom for a dressier look with a hi-low skirt, and tie the front of the blouse in a knot and add a statement necklace.

4) Light denim skinnies – No, they do not make your legs look fat. Let’s just get that out of the way since that was my biggest caveat with the light denim as well. I love these with pastel colors or graphic tees, and they look uber cool with sandals or wedge gym shoes. A nice departure from your dressier dark denim that I’m sure you lived in all winter.

5) The perfect boyfriend jean - This is a tough one to find, but the ones I nabbed have a distressed look and a slightly skinny jean fit (think straight leg jeans with movement). I love this look with a plain tee, cool hat ,or head accessory, and a fun sandal or heel. It’s an unexpected cool.

6) Sneaker Wedges – If you haven’t hopped onto the sneaker wedge bandwagon, hop on! It’s the best thing to happen to my shoe collection since leggings hit my pants rotation. Again, comfort is key, and these look great with everything from shorts to skinnies to minis. Go for a neutral color for spring (throwing my black ones in the back of the closet for now) and enjoy the little lift.

Spring Break Essentials

by Alexandra Machover April 1, 2013

Spring break has been approaching ever so slowly this year (so has spring for that matter), and if you’re like me, you are ready for a (warm) vacation. This year I’m making my getaway even more special by treating myself to a few essentials that will keep me looking cool under the sun.

1.Retro Inspired Bikini

High-waisted yet sexy, flirty yet coy, a vintage-inspired bathing suit is my swimwear of choice this season. This style honors a woman’s curves while leaving something to be desired. Go for a funky vibe with bold prints or keep it classic with simple color blocks. Either way, you’ll definitely be the most fashion forward swimmer at the pool.

2.  Jewels at the pool

No outfit is complete without an accessory or two, even if that outfit is a bathing suit and flip-flops. Which brings me to my next Spring Break essential—statement jewelry. Rather than accessorizing with plastic party beads this year, choose a bejeweled necklace, chandelier earrings or stacked bangles (or all three for that matter).

3.  A Printed Scarf

While SPF and sunglasses are staple items for when you’re under the hot sun, sometimes it’s refreshing to protect yourself from the heat in a more creative, stylish way. That’s when a printed scarf comes in handy. Tie one around your head to stay cool or drape it over your shoulders to prevent them from burning. Silky scarves are an accessory that is both practical and cute… what more can you ask for?

These essentials are some that I’ll definitely be rocking this Spring Break. Be sure to keep updated with my vacation fashion endeavors on my blog, Spur of the Moments.

MANstyle Look for Less

by RemReadyMan March 4, 2013

Hello lads-

Let’s face it; money is tight these days. Majority of Americans don’t have a lot of extra spending cash now, but Remington® seriously offers exceptional products at competitive prices… I actually think our prices are pretty amazing.

You have the tools to clean up nicely, now let MANstyle help you find your looks for less. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to realize that spending 300 bucks on a sweater when you can essentially get the same thing for $30, is moronic. I mean, come on… guys don’t even take the best care of their clothes… at least I don’t and I love clothes.  Why spend that much when it’s just going to get trashed? Save yourself a couple bennys, and indulge elsewhere, life is too short to be spending it on materialistic things.

And ladies... Keep this in mind for great gift ideas!

Boots for any Occasion!

by Remington Ready February 4, 2013

During the winter months, boots become a must-have closet staple. Lucky for us, long gone are the days of unflattering and clunky uniform winter boots. Whether it’s a warm and fuzzy slipper boot, a sleek leather motorcycle boot, or booties to wear out on the town, the options are endless! Boots are an item to invest in, while some trends may come and go most styles are here to stay. Here is a roundup of some of our favorite boots for this winter season.

The Classic: Black boots match just about everything, and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. These are a must have in any closet – and a go-to most days of the week. Pair them with jeans, colored pants, or a flowing skirt! If you’re feeling really daring – go for the over the knee black boot to amp up your style.

Wellies: Every girl needs a pair of rain boots for those rainy mornings that seem impossible to get out of bed. No one wants wet or cold feet, and these rain boots just happen to be totally fashionable too!  Purchase a bright colored pair of wellies to lighten up even the dreariest of days (fuchsia or bright red are our favorites). Pair the bright colors with a subtle army jacket for a chic look.

Booties: Booties are completely on trend right now. For work or a night out, they can add the finishing touch to any outfit. Whether you like a little heel, or a flat, there are tons of options out there. The best part about booties is that they can be paired with anything: A mini-skirt, jeans, or even shorts!

The Winter Boot: A big winter boot is best for the days with freshly fallen snow or slush, and you just don’t want to ruin any of your other boots. They come in wide variety of styles these days, so these boots can be a fashion statement while keeping your toes warm and dry. Winter boots fit comfortably with leggings or skinny jeans – paired with your favorite puffy vest or peacoat.

Jewelry Organization 101

by Jennifer Jones January 21, 2013

Hi there! Jen from IHeart Organizing here today to share with you how I organize and store my jewelry, and provide some additional examples of other awesome jewelry storage ideas as well.

What girl doesn't love a little bling? It is the icing on the outfit and is how we finish off our style. However, if we don't have a little control over how we store our jewels, they can become damaged, ruined or lost.

The first thing I do that is super simple and works like a charm, is place an itty bitty dish on my nightstand. That way, when I go to bed at night, my wedding bands have a special home while I sleep, and are easy to find again the following morning.

For all of my other jewelry, I am a "have to see it to use it" kind of gal. So, I created a simple jewelry display above my dresser. The display allows me to see quickly, at a glance, what I have and what will work with the day's specific outfit.

To create the jewelry storage, I used a few simple frames and inserted special backings to display the jewelry.

For the necklaces, I used cork covered with fabric, which allows me to use push pins to hold the jewels.

By using pushpins, I can select the location and height of each piece, it's a very simple and versatile setup.

And for my earrings, I found this super fantastic sheet of cutout aluminum {from Home Depot}, which I cut down to size and popped into the frame.

I use this for my dangly earrings, and I love that I can always see what I have and make a quick choice in the morning when I am getting ready.

For the smaller bits such as stud earrings, extra backs and broaches, I use a ceramic egg tray.

And although I am not a big ring wearer, I do have a couple and found this charming white ceramic hand silhouette to be the perfect solution!

And last but not least, another dish, this one larger, is a great solution for extra bracelets and watches.

I scoured the web for some additional jewelry organization ideas and it seems that many others are fans of displaying their pretties as well.

There are many great tools on the market to help you get your jewelry in order, from jewelry trees to earing holders to the classic jewelry box. Or, you can get a little creative and repurpose everyday items such as ice cube trays, decorative dishes and muffin tins. And if a good DIY is what you love, updating picture frames and cutlery trays to display your goodies is a simple and effective option. The main thing to remember is to pair things down, only keep what you love and then keep it all divided. Jewelry can easily become mismatched, lost or tangled, so dividers are a necessity and giving every piece a home is the key.

Happy Organizing!

Jen
